What is Legacy of Dead?
Legacy of Dead is an Egyptian slot from Play'n GO. It first ran as a PokerStars exclusive in October 2019 and went out to all casinos on . It belongs to Play'n GO's Dead series rather than the Wilde series: there's no Rich Wilde, and pharaohs and gods take the top spots on the paytable.
Mechanically, it's Book of Dead's twin. You play 5 reels, 3 rows and 10 lines. A golden Tomb is both Wild and Scatter. Three Tombs start free spins with a randomly chosen expanding symbol. The difference is in the details, and those details change how the bonus feels.

Symbols and paytable
The Tomb is Wild and also has its own line wins: five pay 5,000x your line bet, the same as the top symbol, the mummy pharaoh with the crook. That's a difference from Book of Dead, where the Book only pays as a Scatter. As a Scatter, the Tomb pays 2x, 20x or 200x your total bet for 3, 4 or 5 anywhere.
Below the top pair come Anubis, then the golden Pharaoh and Horus, the falcon. These pay for two in a row. A and K top out at 120x the line bet and Q, J and 10 at 80x.

Free spins with up to 9 expanding symbols
Three or more Tombs pay their Scatter win and award 8 free spins. One symbol is picked to be the special expanding symbol. When it lands on enough reels to win, it fills them and pays on every active line, adjacent or not.
How retriggers stack
Here's the twist. Land 3 or more Tombs during the round and you get 8 more spins and a second expanding symbol. Each new retrigger adds another, up to 9 at once. In our captured round, the first special symbol was Anubis and the retrigger added the golden Pharaoh, and the counter read "Free spin 5 of 16".
That makes a long round much stronger than a short one. In Book of Dead you keep one symbol all round. In Legacy of Dead, a couple of retriggers can turn half the paytable into expanding symbols.

Pick Legacy of Dead for the higher top RTP and the stacking symbols. Pick Book of Dead for 10 spins instead of 8 and Rich Wilde as the 5,000x symbol. Both cap at 5,000x and both are high volatility, so the difference is in how a round plays out, not in the ceiling.

Legacy of Dead takes a proven formula and adds one good idea: each retrigger brings a new expanding symbol. Short rounds feel like Book of Dead with two fewer spins. Long rounds can get much richer than anything the original offers.
If you don't care about Rich Wilde, it's the better pick on paper thanks to the higher RTP. If you like the original's single, clear special symbol, stay with Book of Dead.
