Rich Wilde and the Amulet of Dead Slot Review: RTP, Features and Free Demo

Our score: 7.6/10

Quick verdict: Amulet of Dead brings Rich Wilde back to Egypt with the familiar expanding-symbol free spins and one new tool: stacked Thoth Wilds on the middle reels that multiply wins by 2x, 3x or 5x. It's a solid sequel, but the paytable is flatter than Book of Dead's.

What is Amulet of Dead?

Rich Wilde and the Amulet of Dead was released on . It's the closest thing to a direct sequel Book of Dead has had: same desert temple, same 5x3 grid with 10 lines, same cast of Rich, the Pharaoh, Anubis and Horus.

The Scatter changes from a book to a pendant with the Eye of Horus, and it's Wild too. The real addition is Thoth, the ibis-headed god. He's a Wild, and when he's fully stacked on reels 2, 3 or 4 he lights up a win multiplier shown above the grid.

Symbols and paytable

Rich Wilde tops the table at 1,000x the line bet for five, or 100x your total bet with 10 lines. That's a fifth of what he pays in Book of Dead. The Pharaoh pays 400x, Anubis and Horus 150x each, and all four premiums pay for two in a row.

The pendant is a Wild Scatter. On a line it pays like a symbol, up to 1,000x the line bet. Anywhere on the screen it pays 2x, 20x or 200x your total bet for 3, 4 or 5. It replaces regular symbols, but not the special expanding symbol in the free spins.

What's new

Features: Thoth Wilds and free spins

Thoth Wild multipliers

Thoth substitutes for every symbol except the Scatter. When he's fully stacked on reel 2, 3 or 4, a multiplier lights up: one full Thoth reel gives 2x, two give 3x and three give 5x. The multiplier applies to the spin's wins.

Three Thoth reels in the middle with a premium on reels 1 and 5 is where the base game's big hits come from. It doesn't happen often, but it gives the base game something Book of Dead never had.

Free spins with an expanding symbol

Three or more pendants award 10 free spins with a random expanding symbol, which fills its reels when it can win and pays on all active lines. Three more pendants add 10 spins. In the free spins, a fully stacked Thoth can also stand in for the expanding symbol when enough expanding symbols are on the reels, so a Thoth reel can complete an expanded win.

Gamble

After a win you can guess a card's color for 2x or its suit for 4x. The game's own screen sets the limit at 5 rounds or 2,500 coins. The average return of a guess is your stake, so it adds risk, not value.

The numbers

RTP, volatility and max win

The top RTP is 96.29%, slightly above Book of Dead's 96.21%. In theory, that's $96.29 back per $100 wagered over millions of spins. Lower versions exist, so check the game's info screen.

The rules screen says "Win up to 250000 coins", which is 5,000x the 50-coin bet. That's $500 at $0.10 and $5,000 at $1. Reviewers rate the volatility medium-high: the multipliers spread value into the base game, so it's a little less all-or-nothing than Book of Dead.

Pros and cons

What we like

  • Thoth multipliers give the base game real moments
  • Familiar free spins with an extra Wild that can help them
  • The gamble limit is printed on the screen

What we don't

  • Line wins are much smaller than in Book of Dead
  • Fully stacked Thoth reels don't come often
  • Feels like a variation, not a new game

Our verdict: is Amulet of Dead worth playing?

A safe sequel that adds multipliers but loses some of the original's punch.

Amulet of Dead does what a sequel should: same rules, one new idea. The Thoth reels make the base game more interesting, and they can lift a free spin too.

The price is a flatter paytable, so ordinary line wins feel small next to Book of Dead. If the multipliers appeal to you, it's worth a session in demo mode. If not, the original or Legacy of Dead are the stronger classics.
