Quick verdict: Cat Wilde's first solo game is Book of Dead with expanding Wilds in the base game. What is Doom of Dead?
Cat Wilde and the Doom of Dead was released on . Cat had first appeared beside Rich in Shield of Athena a few weeks earlier. This was her first game as the lead. Play'n GO introduces her as a member of the Wilde family trying to make her own name in the Egyptian desert.
The setup is familiar: 5 reels, 3 rows, 10 lines, Egyptian symbols and a free spins round with an expanding symbol. Two things are new. The Scatter is a compass that lands on reels 1, 3 and 5. And the Wilds expand in the base game, turning into towering undead kings and queens.

Symbols and paytable
Cat Wilde is the top symbol. On the paytable screen we captured, five Cats pay 150, four times as much as five Pharaohs (37.50). Anubis and the green scarab follow, and all four premiums pay for two in a row. The cards A to 10 need three. Five full Wild reels pay the same as five Cats.
The gap between Cat and everything else is wider than in Book of Dead. That makes Cat the symbol you want most in the free spins.

Expanding Wild kings and queens
The Wild symbol is a golden Eye of Horus. Play'n GO says the Wilds appear as undead Egyptian kings and queens and expand to fill the entire reel, and the paytable shows five different full-reel kings and queens. A full Wild reel substitutes for every symbol on it, so one in the middle can link wins across several lines at once. Wilds can land on any reel and keep working in the free spins.
Compass free spins
Land three compass Scatters, which appear on reels 1, 3 and 5, and you get 10 free spins. Before the round, the compass spins and picks one high- or low-paying symbol as the special expanding symbol. When it's part of a win, it covers all three positions on its reel and pays on every line. More Scatters during the round add 10 spins.
Combine the two and you see the appeal: an expanded Wild reel can bridge a gap between two expanded special-symbol reels.

A decent debut for Cat Wilde that plays it safe.
Doom of Dead adds expanding Wilds to the classic formula, and that's a real improvement to the base game. The free spins work as you'd expect, with the extra chance of a Wild reel joining an expanded win.
Cat's later games are bolder. Lost Chapter raises the max win to 10,000x and Pyramids of Dead adds three bonus games. Play Doom of Dead if you want Book of Dead with a bit more happening between bonuses.
