The game
Who makes Book of Dead?
Play'n GO, a Swedish studio. Its full name is Rich Wilde and the Book of Dead, and it was released on January 14, 2016.
How many paylines does Book of Dead have?
It has 10 paylines on a 5x3 grid. You can switch lines off with the Lines buttons, but we recommend keeping all 10 on. See our tips.
Is the Book the Wild or the Scatter?
Both. The game's rules call it the Tomb Scatter. It substitutes for every symbol and pays 2x, 20x or 200x your bet for 3, 4 or 5 anywhere.
What is the highest-paying symbol?
Rich Wilde. Five on a line pay 500x your total bet with 10 lines. Full paytable in our review.
Does Book of Dead have a gamble feature?
Yes, where the market allows it. After a win you can guess a card's color for 2x or its suit for 4x. A wrong guess loses the win.
Is Book of Dead high volatility?
Yes. Most of its value comes from the free spins, which land about once in 170 to 200 spins on average according to player trackers.

What is the Book of Dead RTP?
It's 96.21% in the top version. Casinos can also choose 94.25%, 91.25%, 87.25% or 84.18%. Our RTP guide shows how to check yours.
How do the free spins work?
Three or more Scatters give 10 free spins with one random expanding symbol. It fills its reels when it can win and pays on all 10 lines. Details in our free spins guide.
Can you retrigger the free spins?
Yes. Three more Scatters during the round add 10 spins with the same expanding symbol, with no limit on retriggers.
What is the Book of Dead max win?
It's 5,000x your bet: Rich Wilde expanded across all five reels in one free spin. See how the max win works.
Can you buy the bonus?
No. Book of Dead has no bonus buy in any market.
Is there a strategy to win at Book of Dead?
No. Every spin is decided by a random number generator. You can lower the cost by choosing the highest RTP version and keeping all lines on, but no system beats the game.
